Kinesiology for Emotional Stress
Kinesiology can be effective in the treatment of emotional stress. Emotional stress may appear as symptoms of depression, anxiety, overwhelm or fear.
When combined with holistic counselling, mindfulness techniques and vibrational remedies, kinesiology is a powerful tool to help individuals resolve stress and feel confident moving forward.
What is emotional stress?
Emotional stress occurs when there is an imbalance between demands made on us and our ability to cope. The level of stress a person feels will depend on their attitude as much as it does the coping mechanisms that they have in place.
Stress is not always bad. Some people cope well with stress and use it as motivation to get things done or create cange in their lives. When the term ‘stress’ is used in a clinical sense, it refers to a situation that causes discomfort and distress for a person. This distress can lead to mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression.
What causes emotional stress?
Generally the more important the outcome of a situation, the more stressed you feel.
External situations that may lead to stress include:
- Workplace issues
- Family pressures
- Relationship concerns
- Friendship issues
- Financial pressures
External stressors will trigger an internal response in the form of emotion. They will also trigger a physical adrenal response which causes physical effects of stress .
Signs and Symptoms
When we feel stressed, our body kicks into overdrive and releases adrenaline, cortisol and other hormones to help us to deal with what we see to be imminent danger. Our heartbeat, breathing rate and blood pressure elevate. The longer we feel stressed, the greater the demand on our physical body. The more stress we experience the harder we have to work to cope … stress is exhausting!
There is growing evidence that stress contributes to physical illness such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, inflammation, infection and autoimmune conditions such as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. When stress turns into a serious illness, it is important to get professional help.
Symptoms may include:
- hot and cold flushes
- racing heart
- tightening of the chest
- snowballing worries
- obsessive thinking and compulsive behaviour.
- feeling worried and finding it hard to stop worrying
- trouble coping with everyday activities due to worry.
- feeling restless or on edge
- fatigue
- difficulty concentrating
- irritability
- long-term muscle pain
- trouble sleeping / insomnia
How Kinesiology and counselling work together to resolve emotional stress.
Kinesiology is a therapy designed to identify and reduce stress on many different levels. Often we know that we are feeling stressed but we find it difficult to know how to cope.
Kinesiology helps us identify the causes of stress by accessing the many and varied subconscious connections that lead to a stressed state. By working with the subconscious mind to unlock and integrate past experiences and events the body can begin to let go of stress.
Kinesiology works with the Chinese medicine meridian system and the Ayurvedic chakra system to balance energy centres. The treatment also involves using vibrational remedies such as sound and flower essences.
By incorporating therapeutic techniques from methodologies such as cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) we can learn new strategies for understanding and coping with stress to help us better deal with future situations.
Suggested treatment plan.
When treating emotional stress with Kinesiology I recommend:
- An initial 90 minute kinesiology consultation followed by between 3 – 5 standard consultations 1 -2 weeks apart.
- Further follow-up standard consultations should be spaced between 2 -4 weeks apart or booked as needed.
