About Ajna, the Brow Chakra

The word Ajna, can be translated to: Perception. This chakra is associated with all of the elements.

Ajna is associated with perception of both the inner and outer worlds.

The Ajna chakra develops during adolescence.  Events that occur during this time can have a great effect on the development of the brow chakra.

Westerners are renowned for their love of knowledge and most of us have come through an industrialised education system that teaches the value of analysis and processing of information as well as the values of an industrial work ethic which leaves us little time to play, meditate and exercise out intuition. Many of us have lost our ability to quieten our minds and listen to our intuition which can manifest as illness of the mind.

Key Themes:

  • Perception
  • Truth vs. Illusion
  • Understanding
  • Integration
  • Clairvoyance, clear sightedness
  • Thinking
  • Analysis
  • Intuition & Inner Guidance

Ajna chakra imbalances can manifest as:

  • Anxiety
  • Overthinking
  • Nightmares
  • Poor dream recall
  • Concentration problems
  • Blocked intuition
  • mental illness
  • Eye problems
  • Headaches

How to Balance the Ajna chakra

To balance the brow chakra you should be open to exercises that help to harness the mind. This chakra benefits the most from therapies such as meditation and mindfulness,  kinesiology, dreamwork, hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy.  A yoga practice can help open the third eye when practicing Drishti or  Trataka (candle gazing) or positions such as standing forward fold or Balasana (Childs pose) where you can activate the third eye by rolling your forehead on the floor.

Balancing the Brow Chakra with Kinesiology.

Kinesiology can help to identify brow chakra imbalances. Kinesiology allows the therapist to access the many subconscious connections that lead to imbalance. Through muscle testing, kinesiology can unlock and past experiences and events that have caused brow chakra blocks.

Suggested kinesiology treatment plan.

When balancing the brow chakra (or any other chakra) with kinesiology I recommend:

  • An initial 90 minute kinesiology consultation followed by a standard consultation 1 -2 weeks apart.
  • Further follow-up standard consultations should be spaced between 2 -4 weeks apart or booked as needed.
  • You may like to consider a chakra journey experience whereby over the course of 7 sessions we focus in on blockages occurring in each of the chakras, working towards a subtle awakening of kundalini energy.
