The Crown Chakra, Sahasrara.
Location
Sahasrara is known as the crown chakra or the seventh chakra and is located at the top of the head. The colour of this chakra is said to be the incomparable brilliance of all other colours (but is often depicted as purple or pink). The associated gland is the hypothalamus. The pineal gland is also connected with this chakra, as it is with the Brow chakra.
About Sahasrara, the Crown Chakra
The word Sahasrara can be translated to ‘Source of Light’ (a supernatural light as bright as the sun is said to radiate from it).
Sahasrara is said to be our source of enlightenment and our spiritual connection to everything in the universe.
The Crown chakra develops during early adulthood. Events that occur during this time can have a great effect on the development of the crown chakra.
Many westerners have lost connection with the energy of this chakra, this is mainly due to the presence of forced religiosity in our society which for many has led to a loss of faith in a pure divine source. Our society is currently built on belief systems which do not lend to open-mindedness and use of intellect outside of scientific boundaries. Those who think differently are often criticised and met with spiritual cynicism. One of the main sources of depression is lack of faith in a divine source, this has been identified in many teachings, such as the teachings of the Dalai Lama.
Key Themes:
- Connection to a divine source
- Open-mindedness
- Wisdom
- Spiritually connected
- The ability to question
- The ability to perceive, analyze and assimilate information.
Crown chakra imbalances can manifest as:
- Depression
- Spiritual cynicism
- Apathy
- Migraines and headaches
- Insomnia (in conjunction with Brow chakra)
- Nightmares (in conjunction with Brow chakra)
How to create balance in your Crown chakra
To balance the crown chakra, you should be open to exercises that aid you to live in the present moment. This chakra benefits from therapies such as meditation and mindfulness practice, kinesiology, dreamwork, hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy. Sitting with silence is one of the most powerful and important ways to opening the crown chakra. Two breathing techniques you can do before meditation include Nadi Shodhana, or alternate nostril breathing, and Kapalabhati, or the skull shining breath. Inverted asanas such as headstand and downward facing dog can help stimulate the crown chakra, as well as any posture that brings the crown of the head to the floor such as fish pose.
Balancing the Crown Chakra with Kinesiology.
Kinesiology can help to identify crown chakra imbalances. Kinesiology allows the therapist to access the many subconscious connections that lead to imbalance. Through muscle testing, kinesiology can unlock and past experiences and events that have caused crown chakra blocks.
Suggested kinesiology treatment plan.
When balancing the crown chakra (or any other chakra) with kinesiology I recommend:
- An initial 90-minute kinesiology consultation followed by a standard consultation 1 -2 weeks apart.
- Further follow-up standard consultations should be spaced between 2 -4 weeks apart or booked as needed.
- You may like to consider a chakra journey experience whereby over the course of 7 sessions we focus in on blockages occurring in each of the chakras, working towards a subtle awakening of kundalini energy.
